Study Abroad

Programs

Students in any major can make study abroad a part of their academic program. Those who plan ahead can study for an academic year, a semester or a summer and still graduate on time.

Students who prefer not to do full immersion can enroll in programs offering courses in English, with housing in residence halls or apartments. Students may also participate in approved non-CNU programs. Offerings include semester, summer, academic year and short-term study abroad options.

Each summer Christopher Newport faculty lead several group study abroad programs. Locations and course topics vary each summer.

Sample Summer Programs

  • The Roman Empire: Architecture and Ideology
  • South Africa's Pursuit of Social Justice
  • Leadership Through the Ages
  • Cross-Cultural Leadership
  • Business Ethics and Sustainability in the Bahamas
  • The Good Society
  • Environmental Encounters in Iceland

Spend a semester overseas in one of the largest cities in the United Kingdom. You can spend a fall or spring semester in beautiful Glasgow, Scotland, through a partnership with the University of Glasgow. This program is open to sophomores and juniors who have maintained a minimum 3.0 grade-point average.

Once in Scotland, participants take one course from a CNU faculty leader and the remainder of their classes from University of Glasgow professors. Honors students may count Principia’s seminar on the Scottish Enlightenment toward their Christopher Newport seminar requirement.
