First-Generation Transition Program

Every year, approximately 20% of Christopher Newport's incoming class are "first-gen" – meaning they will be the first in their immediate family to graduate from a four-year college. Being first can often be confusing and hard. If you have questions, whom do you ask? When you don't know which campus office does what, where do you go? This is a place to ask questions, find answers and learn more about life as a college student – a first-gen student at Christopher Newport. We're here to help!

From a question portal, to helpful materials and activities, to scheduled faculty/staff meet-ups and events, Christopher Newport offers a variety of resources to help you succeed, such as the Center for Career Planning, Office of the Registrar, the Center for Academic Success and more.

As you navigate you new college world, we're here to help you learn CNU jargon, explore clubs or activities that interest you and set you on your personal path to success.
