Biography

Education

Kyle Garton-Gundling hails from Champaign, Illinois, and taught at the University of Maryland, College Park; the University of Scranton; and the University of Illinois before coming to CNU in 2019. His first book, Enlightened Individualism: Buddhism and Hinduism in American Literature from the Beats to the Present (Ohio State U Press, 2019), explores the overlooked influence of Asian religions on American ideas of freedom. His ongoing research interests include Muslim American literature, religion in science fiction, and interdisciplinary views of capitalism in economics and the humanities. He also likes to play jazz piano and take care of his exuberant son.
