Through scholarships, students who dream of becoming a Captain get to live those dreams.
Scholarships honor and celebrate outstanding academic success, service, talent and potential.
They create the financial bridge that allows a student to step into life as a member of the Christopher Newport family rather than stare down the gap that makes them turn and walk away.
Scholarships are our greatest need, and absolutely the most personal and powerful way you can support our students. You can support a specific scholarship, or you can give to a general scholarship fund that allows us resources to use where they can offer the greatest assistance.
Listed below are a few scholarship opportunities, but you can also establish new scholarship funds in support of students pursuing specific majors, or to honor or memorialize someone you cherish.

Supports need-based scholarships to pave the way for students who have everything it takes to be a Captain except for the resources. Just imagine the difference you can make in the life of one student, and then, in turn, the life of their family and their community.
Endowed Scholarships
Endowed scholarships are permanent and awarded year-after-year. Contributions to an endowed scholarship are invested to produce income, and an annual award is made to a student(s). The contributions are not touched, so the endowment is everlasting.
Annual Scholarships
An annual scholarship may be awarded only as long as you choose to contribute to the fund. We recommend a four year commitment, so that a student may be eligible to receive the scholarship throughout her/his time at Christopher Newport.
Endowed and annual scholarships together allow an annual award to be given while the endowed scholarship grows. The two scholarships can be created with a single gift or over a period of up to five years.
Is for high-achieving Newport News high school students who have been accepted into an early admission program at Christopher Newport. Gifts to the Community Captains Annual Scholarship supports these amazing students and programs. The first cohort of Community Captains arrived on campus the fall of 2021. The program is currently on its fifth cohort.
This scholarship creates opportunities for students who want to chase dreams and change the world. You will be providing crucial funds for students accepted into the program that want to make an impact in the community.
