Student Life, Academics, Service
- Community: In college, I wanted to be more than just a student, I wanted to feel at home as a member of the community. Every college tour makes their campus seem great, but I believe Christopher Newport’s tours are unparalleled. Our student ambassadors (tour guides) are so genuine and full of life, and it definitely shows through to all of our prospective students and parents who visit. After one tour, I was sold.
- Service: Christopher Newport puts a huge emphasis on service. There’s tons of honors and awards to be had for dedicating your years at Christopher Newport to others, but the focus is meant to be that, as a Captain, you wantto serve. Some of our programs include service distinction, Bonner Scholarsand President’s Leadership Program. I genuinely feel like I am a part of something larger at Christopher Newport, and that’s what I wanted in a college.
- Growth: There’s no shortage of upward momentum at Christopher Newport. There are so many opportunities, I almost don’t know where to begin. Our Master’s in Teaching Program, President’s Leadership Program and the Luter School of Business are just the tip of the iceberg of the best of what Christopher Newport offers. Before coming here, I was unsure if I wanted to attend a small university. I didn’t want to feel hindered. I discussed my concerns with university representatives and they were immediately resolved. Christopher Newport’s reach expands farther than any one student could ever dream to reach, and that’s a good thing. Our alumni are spread around the world, leading their lives of significance, but even through our distance, captains are still a community, always growing together.
