Today’s workplaces need people who can recognize ethical problems, weigh competing values, and make sound decisions when the right answer is not obvious. The 12-credit Certificate in Professional Ethics develops practical skills in critical thinking, ethical reasoning, persuasive argumentation, and responsible decision-making.

Students learn to evaluate ethical principles rather than simply accept conventional rules—and to apply those principles to new and complex situations in fields such as business, healthcare, and public service. The certificate culminates in an independent project that allows students to explore an ethical issue connected to their professional interests.

Program Requirements

PHIL 207
Two elective courses from PHIL 304, 319, 337, 376, 384, or RSTD 304
PHIL 480 or PHIL 490, including an approved professional ethics project

The certificate requires 12 credit hours and must be completed alongside a bachelor’s degree.
