Center for Education Research and Policy

The Center for Education Research and Policy (CERP) brings together researchers from across the university to address critical questions related to education, inequality and social change. Our mission is to conduct rigorous research on the most enduring issues for Virginia and the nation, and to use this research to inform educators and policymakers about best practices needed to advance educational reform.

Interdisciplinary scholars from CERP are actively engaged in a variety of areas and work to address many of our goals, which include:

  • Examining academic opportunities and outcomes related to social factors such as race, socioeconomic status and gender in elementary and secondary education
  • Evaluating educational outcomes and economic development in rural, suburban and urban areas
  • Understanding post-secondary preparation in order to improve the transition to career and college
  • Investigating effective school policies as they relate to curriculum, discipline and learning
  • Improving the recruitment, development and retention of teachers

Undergraduate Research Fellow Program

CERP's Undergraduate Research Fellow Program provides a unique opportunity for CNU students to engage in education-related research with scholars from the center, participate in center-sponsored events and help provide the center with the support it needs to thrive in the community. For more information on how to apply, students should visit Handshake through the Center for Career Planning.
