The Wason Center
Informing Democracy, Inspiring Leaders
The Wason Center is where students, scholars, and civic leaders come together to turn knowledge into action. From hands-on polling to real-world political engagement, our programs offer unmatched opportunities to build the skills, insights, and connections that fuel public service and informed citizenship.
For more than a decade, the Wason Center has delivered unbiased, nonpartisan insights that inform citizens and lawmakers on the issues shaping Virginia’s future. Our student-faculty teams conduct surveys, research, and political analysis, amplifying voices across the Commonwealth.
As we enter our second decade, we’re expanding beyond research to inspire values-driven, evidence-based leaders who know how to solve real problems.
"The Wason Center has been an incredible experience that has allowed me to learn about the practical application of leadership and the importance of civic engagement in young generations."

What Makes Us Different
Nonpartisan and Impactful
Our student-led polling is trusted statewide and shapes the conversation on key policy issues.
Real-World Engagement
Students work with leaders across the Commonwealth, from city councils to the halls of Richmond.
Leadership in Action
Through mentorship, networking, and public events, we connect students with trailblazers in government, law, journalism, and public service.
Why Our Work Matters
We turn knowledge into action. Our students learn to think critically, ask hard questions, and understand the issues that shape our world.
We turn service into change. By connecting with leaders who drive real solutions, our students learn to transform communities and strengthen democracy.

Programs and Opportunities
Students have opportunities to design and analyze public opinion polls used by media, policymakers, and citizens. It's real research, with real impact, and CNU undergraduates are at the heart of it.
We connect students with civic leaders from diverse industries who share a commitment to solving problems. Mentors provide one-on-one guidance, career connections, and access to networks in government, policy, nonprofits, business, and campaigns. Through career workshops and networking opportunities, students learn how to turn their passion for service into action.
Our signature events, such as the Peninsula Insiders and the Distinguished Virginians Speaker Series, bring together influential voices to discuss the challenges and opportunities shaping Virginia and the nation.
This series connects students with state leaders through candid conversations about leadership, policy, and public life. Past guests have included governors, Supreme Court justices, and policy influencers.
An immersive experience where students travel to Richmond to observe the General Assembly in action, meet lawmakers, and engage directly in Virginia’s legislative process.
Select students committed to civic leadership are awarded scholarships and participate in intensive programming to develop their leadership skills and networks.
