Scholarships

BCES has a number of scholarships and awards to support our students across all our majors and at various stages of their academic careers.

Biochemistry & Cellular Biology Endowed Scholarship
Recipients must be full-time students who demonstrate financial need and academic achievement, with preference given to those interested in Biochemistry and Cell Biology. The scholarship may be renewed at the discretion of a faculty committee appointed by the Chair of the Department of Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Science.

Sacks Endowed Chemistry Scholarship
The Sacks Endowed Chemistry Scholarship is for incoming full-time freshmen majoring in Chemistry who qualify for a merit award and demonstrate financial need. The scholarship can be renewed for up to three additional years if the student maintains a 3.0 GPA, continues to major in Chemistry, and remains full-time. Its purpose is to cover the equivalent of in-state tuition and fees for outstanding Chemistry majors at Christopher Newport University with demonstrated financial need.

Wylie C. Kirkpatrick Endowed Scholarship
The Wylie C. Kirkpatrick Endowed Scholarship is for full-time juniors or seniors majoring in environmental science or environmental biology who maintain at least a 3.0 GPA. This scholarship may be renewed for one additional year if the recipient continues to meet the full-time enrollment and 3.0 GPA requirements.

Weiss Biology Endowed Scholarship
The Weiss Scholarship is available to rising juniors or seniors who are majoring in Integrative Biology or Organismal and Environmental Biology. Candidates must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher to be eligible. Provided the student continues to meet these eligibility requirements, the scholarship is renewable.

Dr. Jean E. Pugh Endowed Scholarship
The recipient must be a full-time rising junior or senior majoring in Integrative Biology or Organismal and Environmental Biology. Eligibility requires demonstrated financial need and maintaining good academic and social standing. This scholarship is renewable if the criteria continue to be met.

Green Spring Garden Club Annual Scholarship in Environmental Science
This non-renewable award is given to a full-time environmental science major. Preference is given to Virginia residents, particularly those from the Hampton Roads area. You must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and attend a luncheon meeting to be eligible.

Green Spring Garden Club Master of Science in Environmental Science
This non-renewable award is given to a full-time environmental science graduate student. Preference is given to Virginia residents, particularly those from the Hampton Roads area. You must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and attend a luncheon meeting to be eligible.

Dr. William T. Patrick, Jr. Endowed Scholarship
The Dr. William T. Patrick, Jr. Scholars in Science are senior students with the highest GPAs in Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. In the event of a tie, the College determines the winner.

Joseph C. Regan Neuroscience Scholarship
Neuroscience majors must be nominated by a program professor or the Dean of Natural and Behavioral Sciences. Candidates must maintain academic, financial, and social good standing. This annual scholarship is renewable for up to three years if the criteria continue to be met.
