BUILD A FOUNDATION TO THRIVE

Christopher Newport will develop sufficient public and private financial resources to achieve its mission. CNU will invest in recruiting, retaining, and developing its students, faculty and staff. CNU will acquire sufficient endowment funding to provide scholarships to enroll prospective students and support endowed faculty chairs.

The University is a dedicated fiduciary of its resources, leveraging technology and artificial intelligence to improve efficiencies, implementing system integration and data sharing across campus, and managing costs in a manner that shows responsible stewardship.

CNU will foster an environmentally sustainable campus and use its natural resources in an environmentally conscious way. The University will maintain its beautiful grounds and facilities and continue to invest in its technologically-advanced classrooms and laboratories so that every aspect of learning, working, and living will be anchored in excellence.

Goal 1 - Determine enrollment right-sizing for the traditional student population and identify opportunities for enrollment growth.

Objective 1

Based on market analysis, determine attainable overall enrollment goals for first-year, transfer, and graduate students.

Objective 2

Identify and implement methods to address challenges to admitted student yield and to student retention to determine budget allocations to fund prioritized mitigation strategies.

Objective 3

Identify opportunities for enrollment growth across all student populations.

Goal 2 - Increase and expand funding sources for the University through private contributions, new partnerships, investment growth, and grants.

Objective 1

Grow the current endowment corpus value by no less than 3% annually.

Objective 2

Increase annual funds raised for expendable operating purposes, both unrestricted and restricted, by 25% over the prior year.

Objective 3

Expand and increase government and foundation grant resources annually by at least 25%.

Objective 4

Position appropriate leaders across campus to successfully engage as active fundraising partners with Advancement.

Goal 3 - Improve administrative and academic operational effectiveness and efficiency with an emphasis on increased data dissemination.

Objective 1

Establish the academic organization, structure, resources, and policies to create a foundation for the future.

Objective 2

Enhance administrative operational efficiency and expense control by comprehensively analyzing systems, contracts, and organization structure.

Objective 3

Leverage existing and evolving technologies to enhance effectiveness and efficiency across the University.

Goal 4 - Proactively enhance campus environmental sustainability.

Objective 1

Reduce energy intensity and water usage and incorporate renewables into our energy portfolio.

Objective 2

Increase participation of students, faculty, and staff in sustainability efforts to ensure a “whole of university” effort to achieve sustainability goals on campus and set benchmarks for improvement.

Objective 3

Use sustainable best practices in campus operations.

Objective 4

Reduce overall waste generation through the elimination of products, enhancement and expansion of campus reusable programs, and improvement of waste management/recycling infrastructure.
