Christopher Newport accepts applications through the Common Application.

We have three application deadlines. Early Decision is a binding decision with a November 15 deadline. The non-binding Early Action deadline is December 1 and our Regular Decision deadline is February 1.

We have no preference between the SAT and ACT. If students take both tests, we will use the higher scores in our review.

We also accept the CLT. Students can also apply as test-optional.

Yes, interviews are a great way to enhance your application for admission and get a personalized introduction to Christopher Newport. Interviews are encouraged for all applicants and students only need to complete one interview.

Early Decision applicants can receive notification on December 15. The Early Action notification date is January 15 and Regular Decision applicants are notified on March 15. All notifications are sent via the mail.

We have two merit-based scholarship programs available for our incoming freshman — the President’s Leadership Program and the Honors Program. Students apply to the programs through the online admission application and must complete an interview with a member of our admission staff. Learn more about our scholarships through the Merit Scholarship link in the menu on the left.

All notifications are sent via the mail. Scholarship notifications will be received by February 1 for Early Decision and Early Action applicants and April 1 for Regular Decision applicants.

If, and when, the Office of Admission determines that places are available in the entering class, we will begin accepting students from the wait list. If we are able to admit students from the wait list, this usually takes place after May 1.

CNU does not rank its wait list. If we are able to admit students from the wait list, all students who indicated that they wanted to remain on the wait list will be reviewed holistically by the Admission Committee within the context of the applicant pool at that time.

Please feel free to forward any new information that was not part of your original application to the Office of Admission. This could include third-quarter or other recent grade reports in addition to any new standardized test results, information about new honors, awards or achievements. We will add this information to your application for further consideration.

Your $500 enrollment deposit deadline will be predicated upon the date you are offered admission, and may be as soon as 48 hours later. Wait list admission offers are communicated via email, and specify the exact enrollment deposit deadline and include instructions for each student individually.
