Official CNU Brand Elements
Templates
Templates ensure consistency, save time, and uphold the integrity of the Christopher Newport brand. They are designed to simplify your workflow while aligning every communication with our visual identity.
Use them. Do not redesign them.
If you need a template that isn’t listed or require a slight modification, contact branding@cnu.edu - we’re here to help!
From presentations and posters to social media graphics and email signatures, these templates provide a strong, polished foundation for your work and ensure every message reflects the professionalism of Christopher Newport.
Email Signatures
A consistent and professional email signature reinforces the Christopher Newport brand in daily communications. Below are the university’s standards and recommendations for all internal and external email signatures.
Formatting Guidelines
- Use Sans Serif or Tahoma, 12-point font
- You may bold your name for emphasis—this is optional and based on personal preference
- Do not use background colors, images, or decorative elements. This includes:
- JPEGs or PNGs of the CNU logo or departmental marks
- Photos or graphics containing your contact information. These images may not render correctly across devices and email systems, potentially making your message appear unprofessional or difficult to read
Content Recommendations
- Faculty and staff may include professional certifications or credentials (e.g., Ph.D., CPA, SHRM-CP). However, logos, seals, or icons representing those credentials should not be included, as they can create visual clutter and detract from the brand’s clean, cohesive appearance.
- Departments may include approved calls to action that are timely, relevant, and regularly updated. Examples include:
- You are welcome to link to CNU’s official social media channels or your department/program’s verified accounts. These can be included as text links and should direct users to official university pages.
- We recommend not including personal messages, quotes, or scripture passages in your email signature. While well-intentioned, these may be misunderstood, misattributed, or inappropriate in professional or public contexts. Keeping your signature focused and brand-aligned ensures clarity and professionalism.
- And of course, feel free to close with a spirited “Go Captains!” a simple, meaningful way to express pride in our community.
