A new school year means fresh starts and lots of changes happening around campus. Here’s what you can expect:

Campus

  • Construction on the new Science and Engineering Research Center is underway and the structural steel is expected to be complete very soon. The next step is to begin closing the building.
  • The lobby entrance for the Department of Performing Arts at the Ferguson Center for the Arts has been transformed into a beautiful new space.
  • New sidewalk lighting has been installed around residence halls.
  • After serving Pepsi products for years, CNU is now a Coca-Cola campus. This exciting transition will allow CNU to serve a wider range of products in its dining facilities and concession stands, while also keeping prices down and funding necessary services.
  • CNU North is expected to be demolished in mid-September. It will be replaced with a sustainably landscaped green space.
  • A flagpole will be erected on the small island off of Avenue of the Arts near Pope Chapel. A dedication ceremony is tentatively scheduled for a date in September.
  • A new cafe featuring tasty and healthy food is opening in September at the Freeman Center. F.I.T. at Freeman will offer grab and go healthy food options and smoothies.

Academics

  • A new minor is being offered in Forensic Science through the College of Natural and Behavioral Sciences. The minor combines classroom instruction and hands-on laboratory experiences. It will help prepare students for various career paths, including criminal investigations, law enforcement, and forensic laboratories.
  • Luter School of Business is offering a new course in Sports Management, which will introduce students to the management techniques, tools and theories associated with leaders and managers in the sports industry.
  • Luter’s Senior Seminar in Management will now focus on the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The seminar, required for all management majors, integrates concepts, theories and practices explored in earlier coursework and applies them to current issues in management with a specific focus on the business use of AI.
  • Three new certifications are now being offered: Certificate of Data Analytics for the Social Sciences, Certificate of Research and Creative Activity, and Certificate in Professional Ethics.
  • A major in International Affairs is being offered by the College of Social Sciences.
  • A minor in Music has been added by the College of Arts and Humanities.
  • Two sections of Spanish 200 are being offered as “Spanish for the Helping Professions.”

Residence Life

  • Residence Life and University Housing have merged to create the new Office of Residence Life and Housing Administration. The office is located in room 3125 in the David Student Union. Scott Nonemaker is now Director of Residence Life and Housing Administration.
  • The East campus desk is being reopened this year to serve students better. The desk, located on the third floor of Tyler, will be open Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, 11:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m. This addition is expected to decrease response times for lockouts on East Campus.
