CNU will celebrate Earth Day 2025 with a sustainability fair and other events on the day of the observance, April 22, and throughout the month of April.
The fair is sponsored by the Center for Sustainability in Education (CSE) and will be held at the David Student Union plaza from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The fair will feature booths and displays by an array of CNU and community organizations. Students in environmental leadership courses led by Dr. Benjamin Redekop have been preparing posters that visually display the results of the University’s Going Greener initiative. For example, changes in lighting in parking garages and residence halls have resulted in substantial energy savings.
CSE students also created a video that touches on various topics connected to recycling and sustainability.
“We want as many people as possible to take a few minutes on Earth Day to appreciate the steps already underway on campus and the plans for the future that will result in reduced energy consumption, increased recycling and improved life for everyone in our community. We also want students and community members alike to be able to interact with the various community and campus organizations participating, that demonstrate the interdisciplinary approach to sustainability! ” said CSE Marketing Intern Lead Abbie Domingue ‘25.
Other campus events related to the environment include:
- The Peninsula Alumni Chapter is hosting an in-person and online conversation about the environment at the Gregory P. Klich Alumni House on April 21 at noon. Dr. Redekop, Dr. Linda Manning, and Rachel Freeman '25 will speak about sustainability efforts on campus and what Captains can do to help. Attendance is limited to alumni. Please RSVP.
- The GiveItUP move-out program will encourage departing students to donate items that can be reused rather than piling them in dumpsters. Look for the blue bins in residence hall multi-purpose rooms.
